Anxiety – a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.

Philippians 4:6: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

A Journal

I’ve been journaling consistently for a good two years now, and wow, journaling has completely changed my life. I write in the morning when I wake or at the end of the day, or both. Journaling has truly helped me get everything out of my head, understand how I’m feeling, and figuring solutions.

I also write specifically to document what triggers my anxiety, and everything surrounding it, it truly just helps me understand what exactly is going on when I look back to figure out the patters. Keep a journal for thoughts and record your day when your anxiety is the absolute worst, I promise this will help you understand attacks a little better.

Breathe

I’m still working on this every single day, but yes BREATHE! Slow breaths, fast breaths, deep belly breathing, all of that! Breathing is necessary, and I have to remind myself that when I’m freaking out and I feel like the world is crashing down on me. I’m learning how to calm my mind and center myself more to focus on breathing when things are out of my control. But breathe, breathe, breathe, I normally take 5 mins and just focus on breathing, find a breathing technique that helps you through.

Sleep

Lack of sleep can cause bad anxiety, and remember there are so many forms of anxiety. But losing sleep can worsen any form, your mind doesn’t have any rest, so any little thing can trigger whatever your anxiety is. It’s so hard to say I need a day, but if you need a day, you just need a day to yourself to sleep and take care of yourself. Bad enough, anxiety can cause you to not sleep at all, and I experience this more often than not.

Essential Oils

When I have gotten really limited & broken sleep for days, I usually take a really hot bath, with Epson salt and lavender oil. Epson salt with completely relax you, and any tension in your body. Lavender oil is amazing for relaxation & I swear by it. I’ve used it in my oil diffuser, sprayed it on my sheets too, and yeah it’s amazing and really relaxes you for better sleep.

When shopping for lavender oil, make sure it’s 100%, and never apply it directly to your skin without a carrier oil. There are other essential oils that can help too, lavender is just a personal favorite. Linked some essential oils below!

Dealing With Anxiety

There’s no easy or quick fix to deal with anxiety, my best advice dealing with it is, just take it one day at a time. Find ways to keep yourself grounded, talk to someone you trust that will just listen to you. Therapy is fine too, I hate the bad stigma that surrounds therapy but it’s totally ok to go to therapy, truthfully, we all need it. Deal with your anxiety, the worst thing you can do is ignore it and face bigger issues with your health and etc. Lastly, as harsh as it sounds we create our own situations sometimes, remove yourself from anything that pushes you in a bad space.
